Obagi Condition and Enhance System

Obagi Medical Products, Inc., a leader in topical aesthetic and therapeutic skin health systems, announced today results from a new clinical study that showed that its Condition & Enhance System, when combined with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments, provided greater improvement in overall facial appearance as well as increased patient satisfaction vs. IPL treatments with placebo.
“The results of this study clearly demonstrate that the Condition & Enhance System is the best way for physicians to optimize current IPL treatment results,” says Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, co-lead investigator and Medical Director at the Dermatology Cosmetic Laser Associates of La Jolla. “As a physician, I want to recommend a skin care regimen that has true clinical data and now we have that. The Condition & Enhance System not only optimizes procedures, such as IPL, but also helps to build trust and credibility with my patients.”
At the conclusion of the study, physician ratings of overall improvement in facial appearance were significantly greater with the Condition & Enhance System + IPL as compared to IPL with placebo. 72% of Condition & Enhance + IPL patients achieved a 75% overall improvement in facial appearance vs. 19% using IPL with placebo. In addition, statistically significant benefits were seen in hyperpigmentation and skin laxity as well as improved levels of skin texture and fine lines and wrinkles. Similarly, the Condition & Enhance System was clinically proven to increase patient satisfaction. 83% of patients were either Satisfied or Very Satisfied with their overall facial appearance, as compared to 56% using IPL with placebo, and 94% were Satisfied or Very Satisfied with the treatment regimen. This data was presented at the March, 2009 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
“I have been administering IPL treatments to patients for years,” said co-lead investigator Michael H. Gold, MD of the Tennessee Clinical Research Center. “However, by incorporating the Condition & Enhance System with IPL therapy, my patients are even happier with their overall results. My patients appreciate that the Condition & Enhance System offers continued improvement to their facial appearance between procedures and appears to enhance the outcome of the investment they are putting toward the health and appearance of their skin.”
Study Methodology
Participants in the observer-masked, randomized, placebo-controlled study ranged in age from 35-65 years and exhibited moderate to severe photodamage. Over the course of the 90 day trial, 35 participants were instructed to either use the Condition & Enhance System or a placebo-based regimen. Each participant received two IPL treatments.
