Sea Witch Skin CareSea Witch Skin Care began as an idea when entrepreneur Michele Knox was selling chemicals in her full time employment to personal care companies in New England. There was a need for natural products without preservatives. Sea Witch Skin Care, located on the coast of Maine, carries lip butters, bath salts and scented soap. Sea Witch is dedicated to researching and producing natural and organic products without additives or preservatives which will soften, heal or detoxify the skin. Each product has a unique blend of all natural ingredients inspired by the sea and is represented by our mermaid. Additional products are in production and will become available when perfected.

The logo for Sea Witch, a mermaid, was a natural for Michele who grew up on the New England coast in Salem, MA. Traditionally “witches” were known as “sea witches” to the sailors on the ships in the days of maritime seafaring trade. They appeared to sailors at sea in the form of a mermaid and were believed to be able to control many aspects of nature relating to water, especially of the oceans and seas. The mermaid has always symbolized beauty and control of the ocean and its creatures.

About our products:

Our lip butter, “Tangerine Splash,” contains ingredients such as jojoba seed oil, shea butter, mohraw butter, olive oil, and vitamin E. Tangerine Splash is moisturizing without being greasy. It has just a bit of gloss and can be used alone or under your lipstick. It has a lovely light tangerine scent. While producing the product Michele discovered its beneficial use for dry or irritated skin not just on the lips; use it anywhere on the body. “It feels wonderful on the skin, light and moist,” noted daughter Jessica Knox, a marine biologist living and working in NJ. Our lavender scented Pink Himalayan and Dead Sea salts are harvested from ancient sea salt deposits in the Himalayan Mountains and from the Southern Dead Sea in Israel. The lavender is organically grown locally. These salts are used in health spas in many parts of the world and are famous for their effectiveness in relieving muscular aches and many skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. Also, used in aromatherapy they are wonderful in a long warm detoxifying bath at the end of a day.

Our creamy natural soaps lather well and are available in many scents: Sea Cucumber, Lime Spray, Lemon Sea Grass, etc. Contact one of our retail sources for other choices. You can find Sea Witch products at KMZ in Kittery, ME. KMZ also carries a unique range of beauty products such as crmes, soaps, mineral makeup and more. They also have a hip little boutique, which includes jewelry, candles and unusual handbags. Owner Karen Mazzari provides European facials as well as a complete line of skin care. You’ll find KMZ next to Anneke Jans, a fabulous restaurant in Kittery, ME with fine wines and a fantastic menu.

About Organic:

“The United States, the European Union and Japan have comprehensive organic legislation, and the term ‘organic’ may be used only by certified producers. Being able to put the word ‘organic’ on a product is a valuable marketing advantage but does not guarantee that the product is totally organic.” It is quite expensive as well. “In the US, federal organic legislation defines three levels of organics; products made entirely with certified organic ingredients can be labeled ‘100% organic’; products with at least 95% organic ingredients can use the word organic. Both of these categories may also display the USDA organic seal. A third category, containing a minimum of 70% organic ingredients, can be labeled ‘made with organic ingredients.’ In addition, products may also display the logo of the certification body that approved them.” The educated consumer looks for this information. Michele worked with Formulator and Regulatory Affairs Chemist John Shipps at Shipps, Inc. in Canton, MA, to develop her lip butter. Michele and John worked for close to a year formulating just the right ingredients, consistency and melting point for her product. Michele wanted a lip butter that was unlike most products. She also researched how the raw ingredients used in the formulation were processed. She wanted to ensure that the tangerine flavor she used was all natural and not chemically altered in the manufacturing process. Sea Witch also donates a percentage of their profits to Marinebio.org which is an organization that is run entirely by volunteers, marine biologists, students, professors, and conservation advocates working together to share the wonders of the ocean realm inspiring education, marine conservation and research. www.marinebio.org
