Tooth Jewelry The Latest Fashion Fad

Along with the need to improve dental health, many people also want to improve their teeth appearance by getting them straightened or even whitened. For some, cosmetic dentistry nowadays is fast becoming as important as cosmetic surgery. But it hasnt stopped there. While cosmetic dentistry can improve your appearance, todays need to ‘look good’ has taken one step further with tooth jewelery.
What exactly is tooth jewelery?
There are essentially two types twinkles and dental gems.
Twinkles are 24-carat gold and white gold items of jewelery. They come in a variety of designs, some including precious stones such as diamonds, rubies and sapphires. Dental gems are basically glass crystals in different exotic colors such as pink, sapphire light, rainbow and emerald. In might seem surprising, but tooth jewelery is available for both men and women, although children under 16 should have parental consent. The procedure is also not dissimilar to that used to fix an orthodontal bracket, using a special adhesive. Fitting takes around 10 to 15 minutes.
Whats more, if ever you get fed up with the jewelery or want to replace it, it is easy to do. Simply book an appointment with your dentist and he or she will do the rest. As there is no drilling involved it is a totally painless procedure. There is one thing to bear in mind though. While fixing jewelery wont damage your teeth in any way they should only be applied to natural teeth. Tooth jewelery isnt currently suitable for artificial dentures.
Removable tooth jewelery
While getting jewelery fixed to teeth by your dentist may seem the obvious decision, there is one problem. Wearing tooth jewelery all the time is not always appropriate. If this is the case for you, it may be better to do it yourself. However, this is not initially straight forward. Removable jewelery is not fixed straight onto the tooth but is fitted to a specially designed skin that covers the required tooth or teeth. An imprint of the teeth needs to be taken which is then sent off to specialist dental technicians.
If this is something that might appeal to you, there is one important point that should be considered. If you are having any dental work done such as bridges or crowns it is a good idea to talk to your dentist first. Removable jewelery may not be appropriate.
There are many companies now offering or specializing in tooth jewelery. One of the most famous is Swarovski. Swarovski is generally believed to be haunt of the rich and famous, yet tooth jewelery manufactured by the company is not that expensive to buy or have inserted. The range isnt just confined to crystals; many are beautifully designed with shapes of animals such as horses or tigers heads. More traditional star and moon type designs are also available.
While adding jewelery is a great way to add sparkle to your teeth, it is still important to ensure that teeth are kept clean, particularly around the area where the jewelery has been added. Your dentist can advise you. For more information visit: cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk.
