About the founders: Donald and Cheryl Lynne Rubbo cofounded Paul D. Pickens II Research Foundation, a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit global health education organization in 1997. The Rubbos were part of the culture from which the awareness for the reverence and maintenance of the Earth grew. As children, Donald and Cheryl Lynne were taught to grow and eat organic food, recycle trash and wear clothes made from natural fibers. Donald and his father, Don Rubbo, Sr., planted the first community garden in Manhattan’s Lower West Side in 1968 at Canal and Varrick.
